Saskatchewan’s 2026 Sector-Based Nominations: What Applicants Need to Know

In 2026, Saskatchewan will continue to manage its provincial nominations through a sector-based allocation model under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). The system is designed to align permanent residence nominations with labour-market demand, while limiting over-concentration in certain industries. For applicants already working in Saskatchewan, understanding how nominations are distributed by sector is essential.

2026 SINP Nomination Allocation

For 2026, Saskatchewan has been allocated 4,761 provincial nominations by the federal government. Rather than allocating nominations strictly by immigration stream, Saskatchewan applies sector-based controls across the SINP. This means that eligibility and timing are influenced not only by the applicant’s immigration category, but also by the industry in which they are employed.

Priority Sectors (Minimum 50% of Nominations)

At least 50% of Saskatchewan’s total nominations are reserved for priority sectors. These are industries where the province identifies ongoing and structural labour shortages.

Priority sectors include:

• Healthcare
• Agriculture and agribusiness
• Skilled trades
• Energy
• Mining
• Manufacturing
• Technology and related technical occupations

Applicants working in these sectors benefit from fewer intake restrictions. Job Approval Forms for priority occupations are generally accepted year-round, and applications are not tied to narrow submission windows.

Capped Sectors (Maximum 25% of Nominations)

Certain sectors are subject to annual caps and, combined, cannot exceed 25% of the total SINP allocation. These caps are applied to manage volume and balance nomination distribution.

Capped sectors in 2026 are:

• Accommodation and Food Services – up to 15%
• Trucking – up to 5%
• Retail Trade – up to 5%

Applicants in these industries must pay close attention to intake windows, as job approvals and nominations are typically accepted only during scheduled periods throughout the year.

Other Sectors (Remaining Allocation)

The remaining nominations are available to applicants working in sectors that are neither priority nor capped. These occupations are not subject to sector-specific quotas. For these roles, Saskatchewan generally allows ongoing job approvals without fixed intake windows, provided the applicant meets standard SINP requirements.

Eligibility: Applicants With an Existing Work Permit

Sector-based allocation is most relevant for applicants applying under Saskatchewan Experience pathways, particularly Skilled Workers with Existing Work PermitsTo be eligible in 2026, applicants must generally meet the following conditions:

• Hold a valid work permit
• Be working in Saskatchewan in a permanent, full-time position
• Have completed at least six months (780 hours) of continuous employment with the same employer in the same role
• Have a Job Approval Letter issued by SINP
• Work in an occupation that fits within Saskatchewan’s sector framework
• Meet licensing and language requirements, where applicable

Occupations at NOC TEER 0–3 are commonly eligible. Certain TEER 4 and 5 occupations may also qualify, particularly in designated sectors, subject to additional conditions.

Saskatchewan’s 2026 sector-based nomination model places greater emphasis on where you work, not just how you qualify. Applicants with Saskatchewan work experience should confirm their sector classification early and plan applications around allocation limits and intake schedules. Understanding these distinctions can prevent missed opportunities and unnecessary delays.
