WORK PERMIT DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

 

Each type of Work Permit have different document requirements. The stakeholders involved are also different.

LMIA-BASED WORK PERMIT 

Stakeholders Involved. 

  • Canadian Business Owner/Employer. 
  • Temporary Foreign Worker. 
  • 3rd Party Representative: Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, Immigration Lawyer. 
  • Service Canada. 
  • Job Bank. 
  • 3rd Party Recruitment Websites. 
  • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). 
  • CBSA Officer (if applying the work permit at the border or airport). 

Application Documents Required for LMIA Application. 

  • Submission Letter (from 3rd Party Representative): Outlines overall table of contents of the application. This document is not mandatory, but highly recommended. 
  • Labour Market Impact Assessment Application Form (ESDC – EMP5627 for Low-Wage & EMP5626 for High-Wage, EMP5593 for PR support LMIA): Indicates overall LMIA application information such as company information, recruitment efforts, foreign worker’s name, and job position applying for. 
    • LMIA Government Fee payment information is requested in this document. In this page, the business must disclose its payment card details for a Service Canada officer to charge the required payment. 
  • Organization Chart: Depicts the overall organization structure. 
  • Business Time Analysis Report: Displays company’s hours of operations and explains why the business requires a particular job position. 
  • Job Description Report: Shows a particular job’s roles, duties and responsibilities that a TFW is expected to perform. 
  • Job Offer: Discloses a job offer between a Canadian business employer and a TFW. 
  • Recruitment Efforts: Describes overall recruitment efforts made by a Canadian business employer to hire local candidates first. 
    • This section includes job bank ads, job match activity reports and advertisement posting copies from other 3rd party recruitment websites. 
  • Business License. 
  • Certificate of Incorporation. 

Application Documents Required for Online Work Permit Application. 

Please note that paper & border work permit applications are similar to online applications. Please consult with your reliable 3rd party representative for more information. 

  • Submission Letter (from 3rd Party Representative): Outlines overall table of contents of the application. This document is not mandatory, but highly recommended. 
  • Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker (IMM 5710): Explains the applicant’s overall background information. 
  • Digital Photo: Photo of an applicant. 
  • Use of Representative (IMM 5476): A document that indicates a relationship between a 3rd party representative and an applicant. 
  • Photocopy of Passport Information of the Applicant. 
  • Photocopy of Previous Work Permit of the Applicant.  
  • Job Offer Letter signed by both the Employer and the Employee. 
  • LMIA Confirmation Letter. 
  • Education Credentials: This document can be a diploma or degree certificate. The applicant can also provide a transcript along with the graduation certificate as an additional proof. 
  • Resume.
  • Certificate of Employment: To prove the applicant has related past work experience to perform the offered job in Canada. 

SPOUSAL OPEN WORK PERMIT

Stakeholders Involved. 

  • Sponsor: Canadian or Permanent Resident Spouse/Common-law Partner, or a Spouse/Common-law Partner with valid Study Permit or Work Permit. 
  • An Applicant. 
  • 3rd Party Representative: Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, Immigration Lawyer. 
  • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). 
  • CBSA Officer (if applying the work permit at the border or airport).

BRIDGING OPEN WORK PERMIT

Stakeholders Involved. 

  • An Applicant. 
  • 3rd Party Representative: Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, Immigration Lawyer. 
  • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). 

Note: BOWP cannot be applied at the border.

Application Documents Required for Online Work Permit Application.

POST GRADUATE WORK PERMIT

  • Designated Learning Institution. 
  • An Applicant. 
  • 3rd Party Representative: Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, Immigration Lawyer. 
  • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). 

Note: PGWP cannot be applied at the border.
